Sexual orientation discrimination hotline opens

A hotline - 2835 1565 - has been set up to handle enquiries and complaints on discrimination on the grounds of gender identity and sexual orientation. It will start operation on July 7.

The hotline was part of the service of the Home Affairs Bureau's Gender Identity & Sexual Orientation Unit to promote equal opportunities for people of different sexual orientation.

Set up in May, the unit has two staff members. In addition to maintaining the hotline for enquiries and complaints, it also serves as the secretariat to the Sexual Minorities Forum.

The unit organises publicity and education programmes, manages and monitors the Equal Opportunities (Sexual Orientation) Funding Scheme, and conducts research on issues regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.
